Whether you’re a business protecting your physical assets or a resident looking to shore up security on the home front, a wireless security camera is an affordable way to monitor the comings and goings around your property.

Gone are the days when you’d need miles of cables wired into a dedicated CCTV control room, and the HeimVision Assure B1 2K camera is a perfect example of that. It’s small, it’s wireless, and it seamlessly links up to your Wi-Fi network to let you monitor things from your phone or PC.

Note: as of this writing, the Assure B1 2K wireless security camera is on crowdfunding on IndieGogo.

Setting Up

When you open the box to the Assure B1, you’ll be greeted with the below:

  • Camera
  • Base station
  • Ethernet cable
  • Wall mount
  • Charging cable and adapter

Setting up the Assure B1 is easy enough. The main caveat you’ll need to watch out for is the need to be connected to a 2.4GHz wireless network rather than a 5GHz network. Most modern routers have separate channels for 5GHz and 2.4GHz (it should be clear in the Wi-Fi name), so make sure you connect to the right one.

Beyond that, it’s just a case of connecting the base station to the router, putting four AA batteries in the camera, then pressing the big button on both devices three times to get them pairing with each other. Up to four devices can be hooked up to the one base station.

After that, download the HeimSmart app (iOS), follow the instructions, and you’re good to go.

Some people install security cameras as deterrents to potential perps, others want something a little more subtle that isn’t likely to be seen or destroyed by ne’er-do-wells. Both approaches are valid, but the Assure B1 definitely caters for the latter.

This camera is tiny, easily fitting in the palm of your hand and barely visible against a white wall. That makes it very versatile for setting up at different angles or just flat against the wall.

The mounting bracket is similarly small, and will help you mount the camera even onto the slimmest of flat surfaces.

Features and Functionality

The sensor has great sensitivity, detecting movement in a 130-degree field of view at a good distance. The smart PIR sensor means the camera can distinguish between regular movement and human movement.

IP65 waterproofing ensures that the camera can be used indoors or outdoors, which is impressive, especially given its diminutive plastic chassis.

At night, the camera flips over to night vision, with options for black-and-white and color night monitoring. Even at night, face detection continues to work effectively to ensure maximum security.

The Assure B1 lives up to its name by being a reliable and versatile device that’s perfect for those on a bit of a budget. At $160 (but as little as $79 if you get involved in the crowdfunding campaign), it’s one of the best-value security cameras out there.
