Facebook Messenger has a new feature you are going to love because it’s going to make your file sharing needs a whole lot easier. Messenger users will now be able to send Dropbox files in their Messenger conversations. This is going to help those users who may have a co-worker on Messenger who they need to share a file with.
Sharing a Dropbox file on Messenger is as easy as going to the More button in a conversation. The Dropbox option will be the last one down.
To set this feature up correctly, you will need to grant Facebook Messenger permission to access your Dropbox account, but once you do that, you will never have to worry about that again.
If you send pictures and videos, those types of files are going to appear instantly in your conversation, but if you change your mind, Messenger gives you the option to cancel the file you selected.
All other types of files are only going to appear as links to Dropbox. Please keep in mind that if you are sharing a large file, you will need to wait for the file to finish downloading in Dropbox. Once it’s done, you will see the “Send” or “Cancel” option.
Make sure you also have the Dropbox app installed on either your iOS device or Android for this to work correctly and that both apps are up to date as well.
It would have been much better if more cloud services such as Box or SugarSync were added and not just Dropbox, but hopefully it will only be a matter of time before more options will be added.
As you can see, adding a Dropbox file to your Messenger conversations is very easy. Don’t forget that you can also enjoy another new feature on Android’s Messenger of having the option of switching to a persistent Chat Head interface instead of a full screen. Unfortunately, iOS users are going to have to stay within the Messenger app.
But what if you don’t want your Dropbox account linked to your Facebook account? We all have a right to change our minds, don’t we? Keep reading and find out how you can add your Facebook or Twitter account to your Dropbox account.
How to Add Your Facebook Account to Your Dropbox Account
If what you want to add to your Dropbox account is your Facebook account and not the Messenger account, that’s also easy to set up. To connect or disconnect a third-party service, you only need to complete the following steps.
1. Access your Dropbox account and select your name in the top-right corner.
2. Go to Settings and select Account or Personal (only if you have paired both personal and work Dropbox accounts).
3. If what you want to do is to connect a service, tap on the name of the desired service.
4. If you wish to remove a service, select disconnect.
It is always good news when we have more options in the services we use, and that clearly includes Messenger. What services would you like Messenger to add? Let us know in the comments.
