Knowing how to disable your phone’s notifications can be a real lifesaver. It can mean the difference between enjoying some quiet time or having to deal with notifications you couldn’t care less about.
Turning off notifications on your favorite social network is an easy task. After turning them off, you’ll (hopefully) be able to enjoy some peace of mind and be able to leave your phone alone.
Disable Notifications in WhatsApp
If you want to completely disable WhatsApp notifications, open the app and tap on the three vertical dots. Tap on “Settings,” and then on “Notifications.” Just uncheck the box that says “Conversations tones” to disable notifications for all groups and contacts. Make sure that the vibrate option is off as well since that can also drain your phone’s battery.
To mute notifications for a particular contact or group, simply open that contact/group and tap on the three vertical dots. Select “Mute notifications” and choose how long you would like to mute them. You can choose between eight hour, one week, or a year.
How to Disable Facebook Notifications
Open the Facebook app on your Android device and tap on the three horizontal lines. Swipe down until you see the Notifications settings option. When you open it, you’re going to see everything you get notified about.
Tap on the category for the notifications you want to modify and either disable notifications altogether or how you receive them. Just go through the topics and make the changes you want to make.
Turn Off Notifications on Snapchat
If Snapchat’s notifications are becoming unbearable, you can disable them by opening the app and tapping on the ghost icon. Select the cog wheel in the upper-right corner and tap on “Notification Settings.” Uncheck the “Receive Notifications” box and say goodbye to the notifications.
How to Disable Notifications on Instagram
If your friends are driving you crazy with too many posts, then it’s time to turn off those notifications. Open Instagram and tap on the profile icon (last one to the right), and tap on the three vertical dots.
Swipe down to the Settings section and tap on the “Push Notifications” option. You’ll see a long list of things you can disable the notifications for.
You can limit the notifications by only receiving them when people you know do something, or you can turn them off completely.
Eliminate Twitter Notifications
Luckily, Twitter also gives you various options when it comes to modifying how many notifications you get. You can either mute notifications from specific people or for a particular type of content.
To do this, open Twitter and go to the notifications tab and tap on the cog wheel at the bottom-right. By tapping on Advanced filters, you can mute notifications from people you don’t follow, who don’t follow you, with a new account, who have a default profile photo, etc.
In Push Notifications you can turn off notifications that notify you of likes, retweets, mentions and replies, photo tags, new followers, moments, news, recommendations and more! As long as you’re there, you can also change the way you receive the notifications such as turning the vibration option off, using only a ringtone or using just a notification light.
While notifications is a great way to stay up to date with what’s going on in your favorite social networks, it can also get out of hand and get out of control. How do you deal with notifications? Share your thoughts in the comments.
