2019 Is Half Over. What Are You Surprised We Haven’t Seen Yet?

Writers Opinion 2019 Half Over Featured

Every new year starts off with a load of promise. The champagne glasses clink, confetti falls down, and every one of us has plans. We even have dreams of the technological advances we’re expecting to see. The tech world changes so fast.

2019 is half over. What are you surprised we haven’t seen yet? What tech dreams of yours have not been fulfilled?

Our Opinion

Sayak is surprised that he’s “yet to see anyone bragging about their 5G speeds, even though 5G-ready devices are now sold everywhere.” He’d predicted at the beginning of the year that the 5G speeds would be a regular conversation starter by this time. He notes South Korea has everyone beat with their 5G advancements.

Andrew heads dark with his answers and says he’s surprised we haven’t seen “non-combat drone terrorism.” To his knowledge, there have only been two assassination attempts using drones up to this point, and even at that, one of them may have been staged. It’s surprising to him because drones are so freely available and have been known to be used in combat situations.

Miguel is actually surprised at everything that has happened as he expected it to. After more than 20 years watching technology trends, he can gauge whether a prediction is optimistic or pessimistic. He notes that those who announce a project will be finished in a certain year “usually have no clue how to organize such a thing, nor do they have the perception to understand exactly what goes into it down to every minute detail.” They’re usually just hired to make the announcement.

Writers Opinion 2019 Half Over 5g

Alex is surprised a USB standard that everybody liked hasn’t been introduced yet. He thought the third generation was going to take care of that, but “here we are with mystery connections whose capability is indicated not by the shape of the plug but a tiny encoded logo printed on the cable.”

Ryan is surprised we haven’t seen Apple ditching proprietary cables. “Seriously, we all know what game you’re playing.”

I’m with Sayak on this one. I thought 5G would be way bigger right now. I thought everyone would be using it instead of only limited phones being out that include 5G and limited services with it. It’s just not as wide as I thought it would be.
