12 Essential Firefox Add-ons For Power Browsing

Firefox logoFirefox is a great browser that you can easily customize to suit your browsing needs. While the default installation comes with a complete set of features, there are plenty of add-ons that you can use to power up your browsing experience. I have compiled my list of the 12 best Firefox add-ons below:

1) Tab Mix Plus

TMP adds much more functionality to the existing ‘Tab’ function. Other than governing the behavior of the tab, you can also use the built-in session manager to save all your tabs and restore it when browser restarts.

2) Google Toolbar

Perform Google search, image search, news search, access your gmail, google docs and spreadsheet, bookmarks and many Google applications with a click on the Google toolbar. This is a must have for everyone.

3) All-in-One Sidebar

AIOS groups and arranges everything into a column of icons in your sidebar. You can easily access your bookmarks, add-ons, download, history and even a multi panel where you can view the page info and source code.

4) Greasemonkey

This is one of my favorite extension. It allows you to customize the way a webpage displays using small bits of JavaScript. Hundreds of scripts, for a wide variety of popular sites, are already available, and if you think that is not enough, you can even write your own user scripts to do things the way you want it.

5) Speed Dial

This is an exact duplicate of the Opera’s speed dial. It allows you to easily access your most used website. Simply assign your favorite website to the Speed Dial and it will automatically load in blank new windows (and tabs).

6) Download Statusbar

A small feature-rich download manager. This extension adds a download bar to the browser’s status bar and display the progress of the download. Once the download is completed, you can simply click on the link to open the files (without exiting or minimizing your browser).

7) Foxmark bookmark synchronizer

Easily synchronize your local bookmark on various computers. If you are using Google bookmarks, then this extension might be obsolete. However, if you are still keeping bookmark on your local PC, then this is really a great add-on to synchronize your bookmark.

8) PDF download

Clicking on a PDF link often fires up the acrobat reader plugin and brings your browser to a long halt (sometime it just crashes). This PDF download add-on prevents that from happening. Whenever you click on a PDF link, a window will pop up to ask if you want to download the PDF file, open it in the browser, or view it in html mode.

9) FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension)
You never have to reinstall an extension again with FEBE. Automatically backup your extensions, bookmarks, history, saved passwords and easily restore it with a click.

10) Adblock Plus

Adblock Plus is simply the best in blocking out all the ads and displays only the content. Not a good news for marketers and advertisers though. One bad point: you might miss out some of the great offer in the banner ad.

11) CustomizeGoogle

There are plenty of things that you can customize with this add-on. Web search result, image search, groups search, news search products search, Google docs, video, history etc. One feature that I like best is its ability to stream search result page. Whenever you perform a search, it will prefetch the next search result page and display it in the first page. As you scroll down, it will continue to stream the next page. You won’t have to navigate to page 2, 3 or 4 of the search result pages anymore.

12) iMacros for Firefox

Do you hate doing the same task over and over again, such as entering the url of your mail account, type in your username, password and click submit or filling up the same form repeatedly? Well you can get it automated with iMacros.

You have seen my list. So what’s on your list?

  1. really? no StumbleUpoon? how do you think I found this list?

when I used Adblock Plus, it stripped a lot of Flash out of web pages. in fact, it rendered YouTube useless, it didn’t allow the videos on the page. I got the comments but no videos. it wasnt until i uninstalled Adblock Plus was the situation resolved.

    1. Ad Block Plus is an excellent and it does not mess with youtube unless you have improperly configured it.

  2. Here’s my 12 by category:
