How to Record the Screen on Your Mac

There are various reasons for recording the screen on your Mac. Maybe you are writing a detailed step-by-step guide that needs a video tutorial, or maybe you just want to show something to your friends by recording your screen. Either way, you are going to be needing some sort of tools you can use to capture your screen. Fortunately, Mac comes with a built-in tool that helps you accomplish your task. While there may be some other choices on the market to get your job done, the one that comes with your machine is just a perfect tool with all of the features you will ever need.

Our recent article teaches how to record sound on your Mac using QuickTime. Similarly, we will be using the same tool – QuickTime – to record the screen on our Mac. Apple has made a great decision by making these features built-in in their Mac so that the users don’t need to use third-party tools or apps.

As said above, we are going to be using QuickTime to record the screen on your Mac. It will let you capture the whole or a part of your screen, so the end result will only have the things you really want included.

1. Open Finder on your Mac and head to the Applications tab. Double-click on QuickTime Player to open it.

2. Click on “File” menu followed by “New Screen Recording.” It is the option that will let you record the screen on your Mac.

3. As soon as you click the option mentioned in the step above, a small box will appear on your screen. To start recording your screen, simply click on the red button in the box, and it will start.

4. When you have finished recording your screen, click on the “Stop” button in the Menu bar to stop recording. Alternatively, you can use the “Command-Control-Esc” key combination to stop the recording.

5. Once you have stopped the recording, you will then be able to play it in QuickTime. To save it, click “File” followed by “Save.”

6. It will then ask you what name you would like to use for your recording as well as the location where you want to save the file. Once you have filled in these details, click on “Save”.

You are all set. Your screen has now been recorded and is saved as a video file on your Mac. This file can now be uploaded to your own site, YouTube, or any other place where you want to share it. QuickTime records these videos in high quality, so expect your file size to be a bit larger than the normal videos.
