How To Send Large Files Easily

Have you ever need to send large file to someone? If you have, you will know that it is not an easy task to accomplish. Most emails only allow file attachment up to 20MB and if you have a file of over hundred megabytes, this is not a viable method.

There are a few ways that you can you use to send large files easily:


1) Get an online storage drive

Online storage drive such as Xdrive allows you to backup and store your files on their online server. Signing up for a 5GB account is free while a 50GB account cost you $9.95 per month. Once you have uploaded your files, you can click on the ‘Send A File‘ button to send the download link to your friends. The download link is encrypted and anyone who clicks on the link can immediately download your files.

2) Allpeers – Firefox extension

This is an open source application that exists as a Firefox extension. It allows you to share large files inside your browser, be it videos, music, photos, webpages or even torrents with your friends at anytime. For loyal IE users who refuse to switch to Firefox, this method might not be applicable since it requires Firefox to work.

3) Set up a FTP server

You can also share large files via a FTP server. However, this will require some technical knowledge on your part. There are several sites that offer free FTP server for your usage. You can find of them in this list. Free FTP server.

4) TransferBigFiles.com

If you don’t want any online storage solution, Firefox extension, or Ftp server, the easiest way to send large files to someone is simply through TransferBigFiles.com. You just need to upload the files, enter the email address of the receiver and click send; the TBF server will handle everything. Similar to the Xdrive ‘Send A File‘ feature, your friend will receive an email with the download link where they can immediately download the files.

    You mention that hardcore IE users might be turned off by the Firefox extension. I’m an Opera user (though I’m testing Firefox3) and I might be put off by a Firefox extension as well. UEand Firefox are not the only two browsers on the market, and IE won’t even run on any operating system other then Windows!
