You’ll be able to start scripting some very complex tasks in Firefox that will allow you to save immense amounts of time and sky rocket your productivity. This works by iMacros placing a library like function bar that goes in the left side of your screen.

Now you just have to click the ‘Record’ button on the ‘Rec’ tab of the iMacros sidebar, start doing some tasks you’d like to record in Firefox, click ‘Stop’, and now you’ve instantly just made a macro.

To tell iMacros to replay the task all you have to do is find your macro in the list, hit the play tab and click ‘Play’ to do the task in the macro.

Once you’ve created a macro in Firefox, you can go directly to the ‘Edit’ tab in the iMacros sidebar, select your recoreded steps from the list and choose the ‘Edit Macro’ option to view and edit its corresponding code. It’s fairly easy and simple to pick up on the basics of the scripting language iMacros uses just by recording a macro and effectively viewing its source code. Here’s a quick step by step overview of the entire process.

Conclusion

This is an incredible Firefox extension that will allow you to save ample amounts of time with the click of a button. Leave all of those repetitive and annoyingly tedious tasks in the past and look forward to a more productive future with the use of iMacros.

If you’ve ever used or have found this app to be useful, please feel free to discuss it below and subscribe to our amazing feed for one of the best scoops on free apps!

The post Automate Your Browser Tasks With iMacros appeared first on Make Tech Easier.

<media:alt type="html">img-00</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">img-00</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">img-01</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">img-01</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">img-02</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">img-02</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">img-03</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">img-03</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">img-04</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">img-04</media:alt>

Zip Through Pages Without Having to Hit Next

Firefox

Web Stuff

page

search

zip

If you’re a heavy Firefox user like me and love to search for things utilizing Google, other search engines and photo sites then you’re going to find great use for PageZipper within your Firefox arsenal. This extension allows you to automatically load the following page within a search window without having to click on the next button. It saves you time and boosts your productivity as well.

Using PageZipper

As you reach the bottom of a current search page this extension will quickly load the next page, however, this app isn’t automatically active once you’ve downloaded it. As soon as you restart your Firefox browser you will need to go to the View section in your top menu bar, then scroll down to Toolbars and choose Customize.

A window will appear with many icons. You will have to find the PageZipper icon and drag the selection to your Firefox toolbar.

Now all that’s left to do is travel to a search page and press Start PageZipper icon and all of your pages will begin to automatically load beneath each other once you start to reach the end of the search page.

Conclusion

I mostly like to use this extension for searches on Google; however, it also works on similar apps such as Flickr. The way this app works is it automatically identifies the “next” link on a page and then it takes the liberty of loading the actual next page for you. This means that it won’t work on most blogs, as many don’t have a next link.

One downfall I found this newly established extension to lack in is the non-compatibility of sites that do not utilize the English language. Hopefully in the future its developers can get this feature added on to improve its usability. It also does not work on sites that load their next pages using JavaScript, such as Deviantart.com.

All in all I’ve come to believe that this is a great app and it offers the ability to save you time and increase your productivity depending on the tasks you’re working on.

Currently PageZipper is compatible with Win2000/XP/Vista/7 and all recent versions of Firefox.

The post Zip Through Pages Without Having to Hit Next appeared first on Make Tech Easier.

<media:alt type="html">page-img-00</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">page-img-00</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">page-img-01</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">page-img-01</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">page-img-02</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">page-img-02</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">page-img-03</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">page-img-03</media:alt>

Quickly Update, Edit, & Export HTML Codes

Software

Web Stuff

code

developer

html

For web designers and developers, it can get a little hectic sometimes trying to edit strings of codes. This is true especially if you’re not using any apps such as Dreamweaver, it can be hard to find errors or problems that may appear in our codes, thus the expression finding a needle in a haystack many times is completely understated. Luckily a software such as HTML Code Export has been developed. This app allows you to open up an html document to edit it, export it (in over 10 different formats), upgrade your old html file to xhtml, or easily convert your html document to PDF, RTF, images, and other formats.

Here’s How:

First you’ll download HTML Code Export. Once it’s been installed then you’ll open it up and you should arrive at screen just like the following:

Now, let’s say we’d want to fix a few errors in an html document, we’ll start by opening up a file by going to Single File on the menu at the top or by pressing Shift+Ctrl+O on your keyboard.

Next you need to press the Indent button at the top and this will automatically search for group errors and fix them.

An example error that this app fixed within my html document was the indentation of the certain attributes and the rearrangement of tags that were placed in the wrong areas.

Here you’ll clearly see the old un-edited html file on the left, and on the right you can see the new file with a few of the errors fixed:

The last step involves previewing your html file online and making sure that everything’s in place.

Conclusion

There are several other functions HTML Code Export can do besides what was shown above. You can open up multiple files and work on them all at once or you can set your own preferences so that this app can cooperate with you on whatever project you may be working on. Bottom line, HTML Code Export is a powerful app that cleans up your codes and allows you to have full control of your html files.

The post Quickly Update, Edit, & Export HTML Codes appeared first on Make Tech Easier.

<media:alt type="html">html-img-0</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">html-img-0</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">html-img-1</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">html-img-1</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">html-img-2</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">html-img-2</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">html-img-3</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">html-img-3</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">html-img-41</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">html-img-41</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">html-img-5</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">html-img-5</media:alt>

How To Convert PDF Files to Word

Software

Windows

free software

pdf

pdf conversion

Word

PDF files are easy to view and simple to read, however they can be a pain to edit (even if you do have the editor). However, you’ll probably find that some of the font will come out in different sizes once the full conversion has taken place. With Some PDF you can play with a wide range of options, for example if you would like to keep or skip the conversion of images. The graphical user interface (GUI) actually feels a bit “old-school”, however it functions very well. Perhaps Some PDF will possibly bring drag and drop, better user interface and graphics to its future versions of this software.

Please feel free to leave your thoughts or suggestions on how to make tech easier below!

The post How To Convert PDF Files to Word appeared first on Make Tech Easier.

<media:alt type="html">adobe_pdf_logo</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">adobe_pdf_logo</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">pdf-img-1</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">pdf-img-1</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">pdf-img-21</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">pdf-img-21</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">pdf-img-3</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">pdf-img-3</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">pdf-img-4</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">pdf-img-4</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">pdf-img-5</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">pdf-img-5</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">pdf-img-7</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">pdf-img-7</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">pdf-img-6</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">pdf-img-6</media:alt>

How To Instantly Save Every Images On A Web Page

Firefox

Images. This is because the person using the remote support client does not have to be physically present at all, and they can gain complete and full control of the computer from the person who’s seeking for help.

With the use of TeamViewer you can now easily share desktops with the person who is in need of your help. You can show them how an application or software works, remove viruses/spyware, transfer or share files between your computers, or fix an issue with their PC.

To use the application, both you and the person receiving your help will need a user ID. Luckily, you can easily obtain the user ID after you’ve downloaded and installed your version of TeamViewer.

How it Works

Step One: You have to be logged into what’s called a session. In order for you to gain access to a PC, the user requiring your help will need to enter your TeamViewer ID and their password when prompted.

Your connection will be fully encrypted using an RSA private/public key, it will also utilize RC4 session encoding as well, so no need to worry on hacking and information interception on your behalf.

Step Two: Once you’ve entered your partners TeamViewer ID and their version is running on their PC then you just have to click on “Connect to Partner”.

Step Three: As soon as you choose to connect to your partners PC and the connection is successful you will be taken to the following screen with similar features.

If you elect file transfer this is what your screen will look like:

Our Remote Access Journey Conclude

With this remote support application not only will you have full control over your partners computer, you will also be able to record all of your sessions, so that later it can used as tutorials or personal guides. You’ll be able to increase the quality or speed of your connection, control the amount of access you wish to grant to your desktop, and chat with the person who’s granted you access remotely.

TeamViewer is a simple yet very effective application that quickly and easily grants you access to a user’s computer. Share desktops with other users to share files, fix PC problems, add/remove programs, or remove viruses and unwanted applications in an instant. This version of TeamViewer is free, however if you wish to receive more functionality and access several other features then an upgraded version exists for a fee. This software can be installed on all current versions of Windows 95 and up, and it also supports Mac OS as well. Create secure sessions and always configure user’s desktops securely, with TeamViewer.

The post How To Become A Remote Support Guru With TeamViewer appeared first on Make Tech Easier.

Teamviewer

Teamviewer

<media:alt type="html">teamviewer-1</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">teamviewer-1</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">teamviewer-2</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">teamviewer-2</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">teamviewer session</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">teamviewer session</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">teamviewer-features</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">teamviewer-features</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">teamviewer-file-transfer</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">teamviewer-file-transfer</media:alt>

Download Webmail to POP & RSS Reader Tool

Linux

Mac

Software

Web Stuff

Windows

Email

email client

Webmail

FreePOPs is a webmail tool that among several of its other functions, it allows you to access free web based mail utilizing the POP3 protocol. Years ago when web based email readily became available, many used to wonder how to make these emails available to them without having to constantly login to their accounts. Finally there is a solution to the once hard to gain ease and comfort of always knowing what is in your mailbox with FreePOPs. With this app, you’re able to gain access to your email within a matter of seconds while there is no required setup and configuration.

ScreenShot of FreePOPs checking a Gmail account to download the contents to your desktops POP account.

Our POP Journey Has Come to an End

Even though FreePOPs has few flaws like not being able to mark downloaded email as read or the ability to support SMTP settings that would allow you to send email, it is still a display of one’s creativity and ability to further innovate services and applications for a more beneficial use. With a name like WebNotes this web applications function is a bit of a self explanatory one. However, even though this application has a simple name, and behind that name it has simple functions, I will elaborate a bit on its features and uses. WebNotes is a web application that you can use in Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer browsers.

WebNotes Is:

A web application that allows you make live sticky notes with your preferred annotated text on the side. You’re able to highlight any set of text on any webpage and then simply share your notes with anyone you’d like to via email or link sharing. I’m glad that the creators of WebNotes thought of this idea, because now anyone on the web is able to properly save and index their notes with a few taps on the mouse. You can throw out the all-outdated copy and paste format imprisoning you to use Ctrl C and V every 5 seconds or so.

How to Utilize WebNotes:

WebNotes is really marketed and aimed at people that conduct a lot of research on the Web. Its uses don’t have to be restricted to professional or student use, it can be utilized by anyone with a PC. With this application you can easily annotate, organize, and share your notes, comments, or web content. All you have to do is install the WebNotes toolbar that contains all the necessary tools. Once the tool bar has been installed then you’re set to start annotating the web.

You can highlight any set of text and later view it in your WebNotes account. The notes you take and highlight will always be archived in you’re my WebNotes area and they will be accompanied by the specific URL where you took the notes from.

Example:

Highlight any part of any text within a site.

Later quickly view all of your notes in you’re my WebNotes section.

When you’ve finished highlighting the text and notes you desire, you can click on the Share this page button, and this will allow you to send your notes via email or direct link to the persons of your choice.

The End of Our WebNotes Journey:

From what I’ve gathered WebNotes is an easy and simple to use web application that allows the facilitation of jotting down quick notes that can be saved and viewed later. This gives you the ability to organize your work properly while making your life on the web a bit easier all together.

One thing I wasn’t able to come to very good terms with was the installation of the tool bar, although easy enough as it is to install it, you don’t always want to have to install a complete tool bar on top of the Google or Yahoo tool bar already installed within my browser. Maybe WebNotes could possibly develop a much more appealing tool bar with the use of Flash that pops up when you click a small button located somewhere on your screen.

Invites

With all of this being said, I have around 10 WebNotes Beta invites. If you want to get one, shout it out in the comments, along with your email address.

The post WebNotes: Eliminating Copy and Paste Functions, One Note At A Time appeared first on Make Tech Easier.

<media:alt type="html">webnotes-001</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">webnotes-001</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">webnotes-002</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">webnotes-002</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">webnotes-003</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">webnotes-003</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">webnotes-004</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">webnotes-004</media:alt>

Instantly Track Popular Software with Wakoopa

Mac

Software

Web Stuff

Windows

Application

Track

Wakoopa

Wakoopa essentially emerges as an application that’s entered the realm of socialism on the web. What this application allows you to do is share with the world what software you’re using and become a nosy tech by snooping on what other software people are using too.

Wakoopa offers a straightforward registration; once you register on the site, you’re asked to download a small program called Wakoopa Tracker (Windows 98, 2000, XP, Vista, and Mac OS X). This app sits in your taskbar (Windows) or menu bar (Mac OS X) and tracks which applications you’re using. Every once in a while, it sends that data on to the main Wakoopa servers, which then complies a list of software from every user and creates a top 25 list of the most utilized software’s.

Eventually, people can find you on Wakoopa and see how often you use various apps. It defines “use” by it actually being in the foreground and you interacting with it; it doesn’t count it as being used if it’s running in the background. This is actually a good thing, as there are many applications that run without you knowing about them. Dock and SystemUIServer are apps that are always running, albeit always in the background. Now the stats here may be really predictable (most of us will have most of our time logged in our respective web browser), but it’s intended to be fun, not necessarily useful.

Wakoopa as a social website

There is no doubt in my mind that of course, Wakoopa is a social website, which means that you can of course find your friends on there and view their app-usage stats. Wakoopa even has something called “Teams”, which essentially allows you to form groups with things in common that people can join. Wakoopa will then aggregate the usage stats for everyone in the team to find out how many hours are being used up on their common apps. (I say we find out which web browser is used the most…)

Not only does Wakoopa allow you to find info about users, but each application gets its own page as well. On an application’s page, Wakoopa will list the latest version of the app, a description, and a link to the app’s website. It will then aggregate how many hours it has been used by all members of Wakoopa, and how many Wakoopa members are using it. And, my favorite idea, it allows Wakoopa users to rate and post their own reviews of these applications, so you can really get a collective idea of whether that app you want to try out is good or not.

Wakoopa is a great application that allows you to quickly and effectively view software usage, updates, and new versions. You can connect with friends and integrate your desktop with all of its services as well. We’ll have to give the person who came up with this idea a 3 out 5 star rating, since the concept behind this application and the way that it gathers information and compiles accurate lists is astonishing, however, its uses are limited and quite frankly, as a social media website it’s in need of a few more uses for interaction rather than simply wanting to find out what your buddy uses to surf the web.

The post Instantly Track Popular Software with Wakoopa appeared first on Make Tech Easier.

<media:alt type="html">img-0012</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">img-0012</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">img-002</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">img-002</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">img-001</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">img-001</media:alt>

Maintain Up-To-Date Software In Your PC With SUMo

Software

Windows

software update

SUMO

update

windows

The following question will most likely structure your need for this application that dares challenge outdated software installed on your computer. Can you compile a quick and detailed list of ALL outdated software programs residing inside your personal computer?

If you “simply” can’t, then you’re in for some serious trouble. There are reasons why software updates exist, and it isn’t just for showing off some new, cool features. The most important aspect of a software update (sometimes) is that it patches security loopholes that can allow malicious users or programs to take control or harm your computer. Imagine having multiple outdated, hack-prone software programs consistently running on your PC, eerie right?

Software Update Monitor or SUMo in short is a free program for Windows that monitors all installed software inside your computer, providing you with a list of available updates for them, with the aid of just few simple clicks.

Getting Started With SUMo

To get started, download SUMO and install it as any normal Windows application.

Click on SUMo’s icon on the desktop to launch it.

First, click on the “Automatically detect installed software” button to let SUMo scan your computer for already installed applications. Once it has finished, click on the next “Check for updates for your installed software” button to let SUMo connect to the Internet and check for software updates of your previously scanned software list. Click the “Close” button to access SUMo’s main interface.

SUMO will list all installed applications in a simple, multiple columns list. There are 3 icons that show your software’s current status:

Triangular exclamation mark – Extremely outdated software. These ones need to be updated as soon as possible.

Yellow star – Updates available. Not as critical as above.

Green tick mark – These software’s are updated. No problem here.

To get an update for any software, select it from the list and click on the “Get Update” button. You will be taken to SUMo’s web page where you can check how long your software had not been updated (based on the software’s version list). You can find updates for your software from the search function on the page. I hope the next version of SUMo will provide the actual link to a particular software’s update page for easier maintenance and knowledge, which is sadly, is unavailable for this version.

Another very important feature is that you’re able to drag and drop software executables inside SUMo’s interface to find out if there are any updates for it, even before it is installed on your PC! However, this depends on the availability of version information inside the software installer’s properties. Other features of SUMo include the ability to export software updates list to MS Excel spreadsheet / text file, HTTP proxy support and the option to run SUMo at Windows startup.

SUMo is far from perfect but it really eases the process by monitoring and scanning all available software updates for you in one shot. In my opinion, this already makes this software a must have. Try SUMo today and stay updated with the latest software!

The post Maintain Up-To-Date Software In Your PC With SUMo appeared first on Make Tech Easier.

<media:alt type="html">images</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">images</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">sumo-img-001</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">sumo-img-001</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">sumo-img-0021</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">sumo-img-0021</media:alt>

Manage Your Money Easily With My Money

Linux

Mac

Software

Windows

Financial

Money

In a world where keeping track of your financial information can be a hectic task, now you can thank someone for dreaming up and putting into use this innovative solution: My Money. My Money is a modern way for common individuals or businesses to manage their online banking statements with a simple few clicks! All this seemingly complex yet simple system does is download your transactions from the bank web site and automatically insert into your My Money software.

There are endless possibilities with my money. One can take a diversified account and manage it the way they like to by efficiently and effectively organizing their financial data. You can finally afford the luxury of simplifying your taxes and growing your net worth, all for a small FREE fee.

My money gives you the option of organizing your financial records by instantly eliminating errors. You’re able to categorize your business expenses, taxes, and budgeting automatically. You don’t need an accountant to charge you hundreds of dollars to do this manual labor when My Money can do it all for you, it even works as if it were your own personal accountant only better because it finds and fixes your mistakes. You can convert your reports into PDF, OpenDocument, or Microsoft Excel formats giving you the ability to share, send, or save your documents for future reference. It works with all US and Canadian Bank statements as well as your able to sync it with Microsoft Money and Quicken files.

With My Money you can take control of your privacy and data security by being reassured with local SQL data base storage. With the latest build you have added support for Pending Transactions, added maintenance, automated data backup solutions, performance gains, and the support for in-depth languages.

My Money Critique:

The user interface is very nice and well organized (as the function of the software itself), I liked the speed and performance of the software. The only things I would like for them to fix would be to conceive a way for the program to immediately open a new transaction entry to begin filling in right after completing a previous transaction. Another thing is I don’t think an individual (as I don’t) would enter all of the transactions on the current date, since there will be those transactions you wish to enter that have occurred on an earlier date, however this program automatically sets the date to the default time (current) consequently you have to keep changing the date and the time back and forth.

You can download a free 60-day trial version for Mac OS’s here, and you can download a version for Windows and Linux as well.

The post Manage Your Money Easily With My Money appeared first on Make Tech Easier.

coins

coins

my money screenshot

my money screenshot

How To Manage Unix & Linux Systems Using Webmin

Linux

Software

Unix

Webmin

Webmin is a web-based system for Unix, Linux, OpenSolaris, and recently added Windows based Operating Systems that allow you to take full control of your server through a popular control panel and web-interface. What Webmin does is it allows you to simplify the managing course of action with a Unix and/or Linux system. You can manually edit and configure files as well as run commands to create/delete accounts, set up web servers, or manage email forwarding. You’re able to complete all of these tasks through a trouble-free web interface specifically designed for the user.

Here’s a list that consists of several actions you can take using Webmin:

Creating, editing, and deleting UNIX login accounts on your system

Exporting files and directories to other systems with the NFS protocol

Setting up disk quotas to control how much space users can take up with their files

Installing, viewing, and removing software packages in RPM and other formats

Changing your system’s IP address, DNS settings, and routing configuration

Setting up a firewall to protect your computer or give hosts on an internal LAN access to

the Internet

Creating and configuring virtual web sites for the Apache Web server

Managing databases, tables, and fields in a MySQL or PostgreSQL database server

Sharing files with Windows systems by configuring Samba

Webmin System Management

Webmin is a powerful software management system used on your choice of an already powerful OS platform. Webmin allows you to configure and setup almost all of the common services and servers on UNIX and Unix-like systems from the simple GUI (Graphical User-Interface). Webmin warns and protects you from potential dangerous actions that are possibly about to occur.

As many of you Linux and Unix-like users have been manually configuring your files, I found that Webmin will recognize any and all existing configurations! This means that all of the work you’ve previously accomplished will remain unchanged once you begin to successfully manage your system with Webmin.

As Jamie Cameron (the developer of Webmin) states in his FREE book on how to fully manage and configure a Linux system using Webmin, you can only use this web-based application if you have a program/Operating System for it to configure, otherwise it’s absolutely useless.

Recently released versions of Webmin can be installed and run on Windows. However, there will be limited functionality as Webmin says not all of its servers will be available if you decide to run it on a Windows based OS. You can find the steps on how to install and properly configure Webmin on their site.

Here’s a hands-on video on how to setup and configure certain aspects your Webmin:

Drawbacks

The only “issue” that was a bit hard to get used to was the fact that when using Webmin you can’t immediately view the exact changes its made, thus you don’t accurately learn from the changes it makes. This can be useful for future configurations. However, once the changes are up and running you’re able to take the config files apart and examine the process it undertook, leaving you with an admiral facial expression.

Our Webmin Journey Concludes

Webmin is most definitely worth taking a much closer look at. This is one of the most useful and powerful tools for administering Linux and Unix-like systems. Moreover, unlike older releases, the newer version allows you to use multiple SSL websites using the same IP addresses for added security and support. Webmin is constantly being updated and never falls behind, its one-of-a-kind easy to use web-interface will convince you of this all on its own.

You can download Webmin on their site or on SourceForge.net

The post How To Manage Unix & Linux Systems Using Webmin appeared first on Make Tech Easier.

webmin-logo

webmin-logo

<media:alt type="html">webmin-1</media:alt>

<media:alt type="html">webmin-1</media:alt>
